Nightly Privacy Policy

The short version: Nightly collects no data. None. There is no account, no server of ours, and nothing to log into. What you and your partner write to each other travels through your own iCloud, between just your two phones, and we never see any of it.
How the app works
Each night, one shared question appears for both of you. You each answer privately and guess what the other will say, and the reveal unlocks once you've both finished. Everything the app needs to do that lives on your two iPhones and in your own iCloud. There is no third place.
What the app stores, and where it stays
- Your answers, guesses, and reactions. Every night's question and what you both wrote is saved as a small file on your iPhone. That file is the Love Map. It is never sent to us or to anyone else.
- Partner sync. When you pair, Nightly uses Apple's built-in iCloud sharing (CloudKit) to move each night between your two phones. The shared records live in the inviting partner's private iCloud database, the other partner reaches them through Apple's standard sharing, and only the two iCloud accounts you paired can read them. Apple encrypts this data in transit and in storage. We operate no server and have no way to read what syncs.
- The reveal gate. Neither phone displays the other person's answer until both of you have submitted. No peeking is a promise the app keeps mechanically, not a setting.
- Your first names. The names you type during setup are used only to address you inside the app. They stay on your phone.
- Notifications. The evening nudge and the "your partner answered" notice are scheduled locally on your phone. When your partner finishes, Apple's push service delivers a silent, contentless ping that just tells your phone to check iCloud. Your words are never inside a notification payload we could see.
- The demo partner. Before you pair, a simulated partner answers with pre-written sample text so you can try the ritual on one phone. It is entirely on-device and turns off the moment you pair for real.
What we don't do
- No accounts, sign-ups, or logins.
- No analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
- No servers of ours. The app has nothing to send data to.
- No selling, sharing, or transferring of data to anyone, because we never have it.
Unpairing and erasing
Unpairing deletes the shared records from iCloud, and the history already saved on each phone stays with its owner. "Erase all history on this phone" does exactly what it says, and it never touches your partner's phone. If you delete the app, its local data goes with it.
Children
Nightly is made for adult couples. It is not directed at children under 13 and collects no data from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new date at the top.
